Overview

The 20,160 square foot Office of Information Technology (OIT) Hub Data Center is the state of New Jersey’s primary data center that supports distributed server applications for the entire state, along with document and check printing.

Many of the Center’s power distribution units (PDUs) that serve the critical loads were over 22 years old, had limited capacity to serve new loads, and were in need of replacement. The power distribution system was also limited in its capacity to serve new server loads.
In addition, there was a need to alleviate an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) deficit in the facility.

Entech completed an upgrade to replace ten existing power distribution units in the data center with ten 168-pole remote power panels (RPPs). In order to support the new RPPs, and the increased capacity, two 750 kVA unit substations were installed with close-coupled primary circuit breakers, and 120/208V, 2000A secondary switchboards.

Solution Details

We designed and assisted with the installation of a temporary system consisting of a redundant 500 kva UPS, backed up by a redundant 2 mw generator to alleviate a short-term emergency power deficit in the facility. We also designed a permanent redundant 500 kva UPS, backed up by a redundant 800 kw 208/120 V, three-phase, four-wire, emergency generator.
