Low Pressure Grinder Pump Sewer Extension

Lancaster Area Sewer Authority Lancaster, PA

Projects

Overview

The Lancaster Area Sewer Authority (LASA) contracted with Entech to plan, design, permit, bid, and manage the construction of the Raintree Road Sewer Extension Project. The project involved a directionally drilled low-pressure sewer system (LPSS) with 6,400 feet of forcemain, 36 laterals, and 33 residential grinder pump stations.

Solution Details

As part of the initial planning phase of the project, Entech submitted an amendment to West Hempfield Township’s Act 537 Plan and obtained planning approval from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) for the project. Entech also secured several permits on LASA’s behalf, including a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit (HOP), a Water Quality Management (WQM) permit, a GP-5 Utility Line Stream Crossing, and a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) General Permit for Stormwater Discharges Associated with Construction Activities.

During the design of the project, Entech performed grinder pump surveys, coordinated topographical surveys, and assisted with the preparation of legal easement documents. Construction was completed within the allotted timeframe and change orders resulted in a net decrease in construction costs.
