New Water Tank

Red Lion Municipal Authority Red Lion, PA

Projects

Overview

The Edgewood Tank Replacement Project in Red Lion, Pennsylvania, is a 2.0 MG, AWWA D110 wire-wound prestressed concrete tank designed for the Red Lion Municipal Authority (RLMA). Entech provided design, permitting, bidding, construction observation, and services during construction for this project.

RLMA’s system has two (2) 2.0 MG tanks: Edgewood and Fairmont. The water in the Edgewood Tank was not cycling or turning over. Entech conducted a study and found the Edgewood Tank was 18 feet lower than the Fairmont Tank. The Edgewood Tank needed to be replaced with a taller tank to match the elevation of the Fairmont Tank.

The study evaluated options including constructing another welded steel tank, a D-110 concrete tank, a glass-fused to steel tank, and raising the existing welded steel tank. Other volume options were also considered in the study. The conclusion was to replace the existing welded steel tank with an AWWA D110 style prestressed concrete tank.

The design and permit work for the project included these key items:

  • Due to the small site, a temporary construction easement was obtained from the neighboring property owner for a construction lay down area.
  • Performed survey and measurement of the Fairmont Tank overflow to design the proper height of the new concrete tank.
  • A zoning variance was obtained.
  • Obtained a PADEP Public Water Supply Permit.

Construction began in May 2024, and the tank is expected to be placed in service early February 2025.
