Natural Gas Well Pad Design

Projects

Overview

We completed site civil design of a 105,000 square foot pad for a proposed natural gas well, complete with environmental planning and permitting.

The proposed location of the well pad presented several physical constraints and challenges for the design and permitting of the project.

Solution Details

  • The site involved steep slopes. Excessive cuts were necessary and benches were incorporated into the design of the fill slopes.
  • The proposed access driveway had to be strategically located to avoid poor sight distance conditions at the intersection.
  • Nearby residential dwellings and private water wells limited the well pad site location options, in order to comply with required setbacks.
  • ESCGP-1 approval was necessary from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PA DEP), due to the amount of earth disturbance necessary to create the pad site.
  • A zoning variance approval for setbacks from property lines was required from Washington Township.
  • Stormwater design and approvals were required from the Township. Detention basins were provided due to the close proximity to the Township road. The detention basins controlled peak rate runoff to the existing swales and cross culverts along the road.
