Energy Audit & FCA

Institute for Advanced Study Princeton, NJ

Projects

Overview

The Institute for Advanced Study is one of the world’s leading centers for theoretical research and intellectual inquiry. Past scholars have included Albert Einstein and J. Robert Oppenheimer.

Entech performed an energy audit and a Facilities Condition Assessment of 12 academic and administrative buildings as well as 44 housing buildings totaling 361,164 square feet. Building assessments by engineering and architectural personnel were performed with considerable discretion throughout the academic buildings, respecting activities and individuals within the institution. The energy audit included heat load and lighting modeling of primary buildings in order to analyze existing heating and cooling loads and to model individual building energy consumption relative to the total campus.

Solution Details

The energy audit report included payback analysis of recommended Energy Conservation Measures (ECM) ranging in simple payback period from .5 to 11 years. Annual energy savings of recommended ECMs exceeded $220,000.

The Facility Condition Assessment identified, prioritized, and determined probable implementation costs of deferred maintenance and capitol renewal projects for each of the buildings. The combined energy audit and FCA information promoted a thorough evaluation of priorities and use of financial resources. A customized database application was delivered that can be used to track improvement projects and estimate costs.
