Service Line Inventories Due In: Time is running short for water systems in Pennsylvania to complete your service line (SL) inventory and submit it to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PA DEP). Service Line inventories are due October 16, 2024.
Failure to submit the initial inventory to the State by the due date requires a Tier 3 Public Notification.
AI (No, not that AI - After Inventory)
- Your service line inventory is not just once and done! Your inventory will become a living document, capturing replacements of lead and galvanized requiring replacement (GRR) and the addition of new service lines to your system.
- Notification is required to all customers associated with lead, GRR, and unknown materials 30 days after the initial service line inventory submission, and then annually. Revised lead health effects language, including that there is no safe level of lead in drinking water, should be included in public notifications and education materials. See the EPA's fact sheet on the Notification of Known or Potential Service Line Containing Lead.
- Information pertaining to the number of lead, GRR, and unknown service line materials will also be required in your Customer Confidence Report starting in the 2024 reporting year.
- Beginning on July 1, 2025, and then annually, systems must report to the State that notification and education materials were provided to affected customers with lead, galvanized requiring replacement, or unknown service lines. A copy of the notification and information materials sent to customers must be provided to the State.
