Each year the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry announces new public project cost thresholds required for public bids. The threshold for 2018 have increased after staying stagnant from 2015-16 to keep pace with inflation.
In 2018, the rates increased 2.2% from 2017 rates. Most government entity projects, including municipal authorities, boroughs, towns, and public schools, will require a written bid when the project totals more than $20,100 in 2018.
Beginning on January 1, 2018, the bidding thresholds for municipal authorities will be as follows:
- Purchases and contracts below $10,900 require no formal bidding or written/telephonic quotations.
- Purchases and contracts between $10,900 and $20,100 require three written/telephonic quotations.
- Purchases and contracts over $20,100 require formal bidding.
