Potable water suppliers who operate within the Delaware River Basin are required by the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) to complete an annual water audit. These water audits are due to the DRBC by March 31, 2017. Audits not received by the deadline can result in penal sanctions from the DRBC.
How to complete your water audits:
- The American Water Works Association (AWWA) offers FREE Water Loss Control Audit Software here: http://www.awwa.org/resources-tools/water-knowledge/water-loss-control.aspx. Download and install the software.
- Complete the fields within the “Reporting Worksheet” tab.
- Submit that information with your DRBC docket number to: water.audit@drbc.state.nj.us.
About DRBC water audits
According to the DRBC, it has been estimated that 6 billion gallons of water per day are lost within the United States, with 150 million gallons of that water originating from within the Delaware River Basin. Water distribution infrastructure failures and leaks, along with erroneous metering and accounting, are the primary culprits for these losses. In an effort to report, track, and eliminate this wasteful use of potable water, the DRBC requires annual filing.
